Port Captain Report June 2022

For the Trailer owner’s, just a reminder make sure that a copies of your keys are with the emergence keys box that Paul Morrow keeps in his possession. Paul, John, and I have finish the walk through and trailer checking make sure that you have a 10lb Fire extinguisher and working smoke alarm (see page 35 moorage rule 17). We also check for backflow valves, and wastewater drop. Also that moorage rule 17 is not being violated with extension cord on your deck. John that did the walk around with Paul and myself, checking that all the trailers had backflow preventers on the water systems. They were also checking the general conditions of the trailers. They will be creating a report of the Board of their finding and I believe contacting any owners with issue that were noted.

Port Captain Report May 2022

Memorial Day Regatta’s coming up and I would like to request for everyone to get their boats out of the center parking area. So if you were not planning to put your boat in the next several weekends would you please move it to the back row along the fence on the west side of the grounds. That way it opens up the center parking area, and gives the club a more yacht friendly look.

Port Captain Report April 2022

The moorage billing is in Larisa’s hands, and I hope to have a list of names and moorage spot on the Port Capt. Board by the Yot Pot when the club is open up.

If you have moorage billing issue please contact me before Larisa. She is only doing what I ask her to do. But this is for MOORAGE BILLING ISSUE ONLY. For service charges and other issue please read and understand the billing process that are stated in the club handbook before contact Larisa.

Look like we are going to have a SO-SO water year if we do not get one bill rain event. The long range forecast for April is even rainfall for the average year of 3 inches. With a total of only 3.37 inches in March we need an average April.

As of this writing 4-05-22 the level of the lake is 367.97 feet above sea level that is about 5.53 feet below full pool and 3.2 feet behind the curve. With the current ground saturation we need about 2.5 TO 3 inch of rain to fill the lake. This is if the ground does not dry out. It is raining as I write this so keep up your rain dance as this current event has drop about .77 inch of rain for April.

Remember that the system of dock numbering will be ODD numbers on the LEFT and EVEN numbers on the right -- B, D, E docks.

That way the larger the number the deeper the slip will be in the lake. Docks A and C will use the same system that they have had in the pass.

But Docks A and B will lose one slip as I am changing the 1-2 slip to just 1 as you can only get one boat in those slip.

In closing Moorage spot TR 08 if open please check in other places on the newsletter for this listing

March 2022

You have a week or less to get your moorage request in by using the website to select your moorage see below.

They are due by the 20th of March – file now or loss your spot. I have only received 30% of the moorage request for the current year and with new members they will be happy that you did not request your moorage. And members that wish to move to a better spot.

At this writing the fill is Six feet behind the fill curve target, this is a best guess as the CORP remove the storage and forebay info off of their site in the Query area. For a good water year we need to get about 6” of rain and the Corp to holds the water level. We are 6 feet behind last year at this time and this is the fast fill part of the fill. The long range forecast is One (1) inch above average for April and average for March, so we may not have full pool this year. As of this writing 3/2/22 – in the last 3 day we have received 1.09 inch of rain.

Moorage: the link is

February 2022

We have had some rain this year. And at this point we are above the curve and our best rain months to fill the lake are Feb., Mar., and April. So start your rain dances as we have snow in the mountains and hope that it will be enough to stop and early draw down for fish. And I know that we do not use snow melt to fill the lake but we could end up with a early draw down like last year to replace the lost of upper lakes waters for the salmon migration.

Moorage: Get your moorage request filled out. As last year it is all on line. You will find the link HERE. They are due by the 20th of March – file early and avoid the rush. There are several items that you will need to be aware of:

1) You will need your password

January 2022

Moorage: Get your moorage request form filled out and back to me. CLICK HERE to access the form. Requests are due by the 13th of March – avoid the rush and file early.

If you did not pay for your wet moorage but only for storage last year you will see that your moorage spot will be row J this is if you use the moorage map on the website. If this is the case you will need to complete a moorage request form and you will be added to the list of new moorage for this year. If you are a new member requesting moorage you will need to file out a moorage request form for new moorage.

We have EYC stickers for all watercraft that do not need and OR number. And remember that you will need an invasive specie stamp. So if you do not have OR numbers on your watercraft (paddleboards, Kayaks, and/or canoes) then you will need to contact me and get an moorage sticker. It will be an EYC burgee with a number in the center it will need to be affix to the watercraft on the bow on top or on the starboard side at the bow. If a watercraft does not have a moorage sticker and the Port Captain finds said watercraft he will lock it up and then you will need to deal with ME to retrieve your board, boat, or whatever. And remember that I may not be at the club when you would like to use your watercraft and if on a motorcycle trip it maybe a day or more before I get back.

Talking about locking up I have a red Kayak that is in the rack and no information it is about ready to be sealed up.

Port Captain Report November 2021

I will be checking and billing any boat that are on the grounds for winter storage in the next week or two. Check page 27 of the handbook for rates but realize that there is about a 10% increase in the rate that have not publish in the handbook (check the commodores comments for more information), page 72, Article 5 section 4 of the by laws. If your boat is on the grounds when I check you will be billed FOR THE TOTAL WINTER STORAGE, and as in the past I am taking pictures of all boats on the grounds. There will be no prorating after EYC has billed. And please if you park in the island have your boat facing West, and you name and OR numbers on the tongue of your trailer. That way I will not need to remove your cover to read your OR numbers, this is a big issue with the cats so please check that you have your OR numbers on the trailer. And as the ground rules state you are to have your name on the tongue of your trailer.

Port Captain Report October 2021

As the season is coming to an end, I have had several emails about winter storage. When I check for on ground boats you may know I take picture of all the boats that I count at the end of EYC year, that is the billing year for winter storage. Check page 27 of
the 2020 handbook “WINTER STORAGE FEE (Nov 1 through March 31)

I will be checking and billing any boat that is on the grounds for winter storage in the first two weeks of November. Check page 53 section 8 of the by laws. If your boat is on the grounds when I check you will be billed FOR THE TOTAL WINTER STORAGE. There will be no prorating after EYC has billed.

Port Captain Report September 2021

As this season comes to a close there are several issues that need to be addressed ahead of the winter storage season.

I will be checking and billing any boat that is on the grounds for winter storage in the first two weeks of November. Check page 27 in the 2021 Handbook for information on moorage fees. If your boat is on the grounds when I check you will be billed for the total winter storage. There will be no prorating after billing.

If you have not cleaned up under and around your boat, please do so. This includes picking up all plastic and metal bottle caps. Cut the grass and clean up any weeds that may become large over the winter. We have seen what a fire can do in short order, so please clean up under and around your boat and trailer.

If you have pulled your boat and are planning to store on the grounds, please have boats stored in the parking island with bows facing west and boats on the back fence with bows facing east. You need to have your name on trailer (part of the EYC by-laws), and I ask that you put your OR numbers on the trailer, too. That way I do not have to remove part of your cover to check the OR numbers on the boat. I have the most problem with the catamarans, so if you like the way you cover your boat please have the OR number on the tongue of your boat and your name as I may not cover the same way that you do. I will remove the cover to find OR numbers. If it is raining there is no guarantee that I will replace your cover. Write your OR number on your trailer.

As the year comes to an end, any issues with your slip should be addressed when the water is out. Please remove your spacer boards that cover the dock-to-slip gap, and secure to your slip as they sometimes get removed when the weather is bad. Check the dock pins and hairpin clips that attach the slips to the docks (C dock as the other are bolts). Look at the tie bars that hold the hinges together. If it is broken or looks cracked please tell Paul Stephens or myself so we can get it repaired before winter storms blow in. Check the hoops around your boat for any defects. We will not remove the fingers off of E or D Docks. I found several pins and through bolts that were not tight and were not complete missing hairpin keepers. I know that it was not a great sailing year, but look after your slip as the boat you save may be yours next year.

Port Captain Report July 2021

Here we are at the last month that this year's work party hours can be performed for 2021. There are a couple of projects that still need to be done. Please contact Paul Stephens or Marji Clune for the list.

Also please keep in mind that you need to keep the grass under control (mowed) under your boat/trailer. With the dry weather that we are having and projected into the future, we need to be proactive about the long grass and weeds.

Port Captain Report June 2021

As you are using your boat please look at the hoops, hinge pins, hinges, and tie-bars for the hinges and if you see cracks or other items that need attention, please take care of them. On C dock look under the mats that cover the hinge points and the small hinges. If a needed repair is above your skill level, please contact Paul Stephens, or you can email me and I will forward to Paul.

Trailer owners, I want to remind you to make sure that copies of your keys are with the emergency keys kept by Club Manager Rich Aaring. Rich and I have done our trailer inspection, and I'm happy to say it was a lot better than in past years. You should have received an email with our inspection report.

Port Captain Report May 2021

As we move into the summer months and as the club opens up more, remember to keep the area around your boat clean and cut the grass. If you do not cut your grass under your trailer of boat and the club does it, you will be charged a mowing fee. This also applies to the people that have their boats on the back lot and the center island.

Port Captain Report April 2021

he moorage billing is in our bookkeeper Larisa’s hands. If you have moorage billing issues, please contact me before Larisa. She is only doing what I ask her to do. This is for moorage billing issues only. For service charges and other issues, please read and understand the billing process that are stated in the club handbook before contact Larisa.

I hope to have a list of names and moorage spots on the Port Captain Board by the Yot Pot when the club opens up. As your bring your boat to the grounds, be sure to place it in your assigned moorage spot. As members bring their boats to the grounds in the next couple of weeks, it's important that their assigned space is available, so please get your boats out of someone else's moorage and into the correct one if necessary. If you are not sure of your assigned moorage, please contact me.

Port Captain Report March 2021

You have just a couple days to get your 2021 moorage request turned in. Sunday, March 14 is the deadline. File now or lose your spot! Requests can be made by using the EYC website.

As of this writing, the lake fill is a little behind target. I am looking forward to a good water year if we get a little more rain. The long range forecast is normal for March, so I see no reason not to believe that we will have a full pool this year. Having said that, as of March 2, we need 4.39 inches of rain for 59,032 acre-feet of water and we are 58,500 acre-feet to a full pool. This takes into account that the warmer it gets, the more plants will start taking water.

Moorage requests must be made online on the EYC website and are due Sunday, March 14. Here are a few things to be aware of:

Port Captain Report February 2021

We have had rain this year, but the best rains to fill the lake come in February, March, and April. So start your rain dances as there is snow in the mountain but we can always use more.

Please get your moorage requests filled out. Moorage requests for the 2021 season are due by March 14. It is all online on the EYC website. Follow the steps to make the correct request for your situation. Here are a few things to be aware of:

  1. Step 1 shows a Google map of the club with the moorage location of all the slips (this may or may not be 100% correct as it is updated after I finish assigning moorage).

  2. The Keep Moorage The Same form is used by all who wish to keep their current moorage or to change their moorage. To keep everything the same, fill out this form and then select the YES radio button. If you would like to change moorage you can ask in the comment section, or fill out this form and to change one or more moorage selections or to drop a moorage also fill out the Request To Change Moorage form.

  3. Use the Request To Change Moorage to tell me what you would like to change or what you would like to drop from last year's moorage. If you sold your boat please use the text field to tell me who purchased your watercraft and if it will still be on the grounds.

  4. The Request For New Moorage form is for new moorage or new boat ownership. Be sure to fill out the form completely with all the pertinent information.

Port Captain Report January 2021

t's that time of year again—time to get your Moorage Request Form for 2021 filled out online. Here is the link for it on the EYC website. You can also access it through the Members Area of the website. Even if you don’t want to make any changes, you must request moorage for your watercraft each year.

Your requests for moorage are due by March 14. As I always say, avoid the rush and file early! If you did not pay for your wet moorage but only for storage last year you will see that your moorage spot will be row J on the moorage map on the website. If this is the case you will need to complete a Moorage Request Form and you will be added to the list for new moorage for this year. If you are a new member requesting moorage you will need to file out a Moorage Request Form for new moorage.

Port Captain Report November 2020

I will be checking and billing any boat that is on the grounds for winter storage any day now. If your boat is on the grounds when I check you will be billed for the total winter storage. I will take pictures of all boats on the grounds at that time. There will be no prorating of fees once billing has been sent. Check page 27 in the 2020 Member Handbook for moorage fees (although they may be different for 2021).

If you have your boat in the parking island, have it facing west. If it is against the fence, have it facing east. Your name is required on the trailer tongue per EYC bylaws. OR numbers should also be on your trailer tongue. This is so that I do not have to remove your cover to read OR numbers. This is especially important for catamarans which should also be tied to the trailer so that a big wind event doesn't send it into the trees or over to the dam. Remember to cover your boat to keep it dry and safe and do not leave valuable items unsecured.

Port Captain Report October 2020

As the season comes to an end, I have had several emails about winter storage. You may know that I take pictures of all the boats that I count on the grounds at the end of the season. The winter billing season begins on November 1 (see Page 27 in the 2020 Member Handbook for more on Winter Storage dates and fees).

I will be checking and billing any boat that is on the grounds for winter storage in the first two weeks of November (see page 53, Section 8 of the EYC Bylaws). If your boat is on the grounds when I check you will be billed for the total winter storage. There will be no prorating after EYC has billed.

Port Captain Report September 2020

As the season comes to a close, there are several issues that need to be addressed in preparation for the winter storage season.

1. If you have not cleaned up under your boat, please do so. This includes picking up all plastic and metal bottle caps. Cut the grass and clean up any weeds so they don't get too large over the winter.

2. At the end of this sailing season and/or once you have pulled your boat out of the marina, if you are planning to store it on EYC grounds, please observe these guidelines:

  • Boats stored on the parking island should have their bows facing west.

  • Boats stored along the back fence should have their bows facing east.

Your name must be on trailer (part of our bylaws) and please put your OR registration numbers on the trailer, too. This keeps me from removing part of your covering to check OR numbers on the boat. This is a big problem with catamarans. If you like the way you cover your boat, having the OR numbers on the tongue of the trailer keeps me from messing that up. I will remove your tarps to find OR numbers but can not guarantee that I will replace them, so write those numbers on your trailer!

Port Captain Report August 2020

Here we are in August and the lake is in poor shape compared to last year. As we are entering into the last of this interesting sailing season, do not forget to take care of the grounds around your boat and trailer.

I would like to thank Bill and Vicky Boyce for mowing around boats that are still in the island parking area. It is nice to see that most people are pitching in and helping keep the club in great shape, especially when you consider the type of year that we are having.

On July 29, the water level was 368.92 (in the forebay) and the gauge on A Dock was at about 8 feet 5 inches. At the writing of this report (August 5), the forebay depth is 368.69, which is a loss of .23 feet in a week—almost 3 inches. As the lake gets lower, the rate will increase, so remember to watch the depth gauge and keep in mind that it is your trailer height and not your keep depth that will determine when you need to pull your boat.

One last note on the level of the lake: the depth gauge at the end of A Dock is only off by one or two inches to the toe of our ramp. Please do not run your trailer wheels off the edge of the ramp as it will degrade the toe of the ramp.
